Women are ditching dermal fillers for fat transfer in what experts are calling a new era of anti ageing

The replacement to dermal fillers that uses your own fat to volumise and contour the face is plastic surgeons best kept secret.

Facial rejuvenation is an increasingly popular part of the anti ageing industry. We all want to look and feel youthful for as long as possible – but how far would you go in the quest for perfection?

According to leading facial rejuvenation experts, women are finally switching from filler to more holistic anti ageing treatments that not only add volume but also improve the skin from within.

And what’s the name of this magic treatment? Fat transfer.

For years, dermal fillers have been the go-to volume-boosting treatment loved by UK women, but with so many unregulated providers many are seeking alternative treatments.

One popular alternative to dermal fillers is fat transfer, renowned as one of the most progressive forms of anti ageing treatment by top plastic surgeons and cosmetic experts.

Rather than introducing synthetic products to the face, fat transfer uses the body’s own fat supplies to add volume, contour the cheeks or jaw, and boost the overall youthfulness of the skin.

Not only can using one’s own fat add volume to areas that may be affected by the ageing process, the harvested cells provide a totally natural and holistic way to boost collagen production.

The benefits are vast. Unlike dermal fillers which are synthetic and can cause reaction, the body’s own fat is entirely natural and helps to boost the skin’s overall health whilst volumising the area. It’s a versatile and multi-beneficial form of facial rejuvenation.

So – what is it?

Fat is nature’s very own sculpting tool, and this procedure allows you to harness its benefits. Using a device called Body-jet fat can be removed gently using water-assisted jets.

It’s not liposuction: it’s the new generation of transferring or removing fat effectively and safely. It’s ideal for restoring volume to the cheeks, plumping out wrinkles without the fear of discolouration or reaction.

Fat transfer is the process of taking fat from one area of the body and replacing it where fullness is needed. You can harvest fat from the body and replace it in the face.

So what do the experts think? Mr Anthony MacQuillan, a fully qualified and accredited consultant plastic surgeon, works as a consultant in the NHS and also provides private services in aesthetic medicine at Only You Clinic in London.

He offers fat transfer as an anti ageing treatment and says:

“Using fat as an alternative to dermal filler is a long term and more reliable way to volumise the face. As part of facial rejuvenation we can use a patient’s own fat, taken from areas such as the abdomen or buttocks, to fill lines and wrinkles, improve dark circles and volumise areas such as the cheeks. The average age of patients is late 30s to mid 50s.

“There’s been a turn in the way patients, especially women, are viewing facial rejuvenation. Not only are my patients looking for a more permanent solution, they want a safer option. Dermal filler results can be reliable and cause inflammation and scarring. Once fat is injected it’s a permanent effect and cannot incapsulate like fillers often do. Another benefit of choosing fat over filler is that you avoid the blueish hue that can sometimes be seen from the dermis. This does not occur with fat.
